We are currently working on placing students from our Bachelor of Child Development Degree (BCD) and Infant & Early Child Mental Heath (IMH) programs for Winter 2026 semester. Winter 2026 field placements begin in the week of January 12, 2026 and end the week of April 10, 2026. High quality placement is an invaluable component to Seneca’s programs. Students will have the opportunity to interact and engage with children, families and organizations.  Mentoring a student would involve providing constructive feedback to students, guide students in identifying their emerging skills as practitioners and support them in achieving these, complete a mid-term, final student evaluations, and model best practices. Students will be given an opportunity as part of your team and to interact with children and families in your community organization. During this placement, students are responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and reflecting on their roles as facilitators. Students will be challenged in areas such as interpersonal communication, establishing community partnerships and engaging in community outreach, curriculum theory and practice, professionalism and leadership.

RECEs mentoring students are also able to use this student mentorship experience as an activity for their Continuous Professional Learning required by the College of Early Childhood Education. Mentors can use the field mentor feedback as documentation of participation and application of professional learning.

Field placement provides students the opportunity for the integration of classroom learning into practice. Students experience best practices and build positive relationships with children and adults. Our students cannot complete their education in our program without field placement. You play a vital part of student learning and experiences.

Seneca’s Field Placement Team and Field Liaisons will collaborate with you in supporting student success and positive experiences for all. Together we can create a collaborative environment with intentional effort and ongoing commitment from everyone involved.

We will achieve this through:

  • clear goals and expectations
  • open and inclusive environments
  • effective communication
  • positive student and mentor relationships
  • shared responsibilities
  • celebrating successes and learning from challenges

Winter 2026 field placements begin in the week of January 12, 2026 and end the week of April 10, 2026.

Please let us know if your organization is able to accommodate our students by completing the Field Placement Form. Once you have completed the online form, please save those spots for Seneca. More details (student names, Seneca Field Liaison contact, etc.) will be sent to you via email by the beginning of January for our Winter 2026 semester.

PLEASE NOTE: Students must attend preparatory seminars in the first two weeks of the semester before receiving their field placement information. Students will be contacting you one week before placement begins to introduce themselves.
