Sherbourne Health Centre (SHC) provides innovative primary health care to the diverse populations of southeast Toronto with a special focus on people who are homeless, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans communities, and newcomers to Canada. We are primarily funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network.
We are presently looking for a Full Time Health Promoter to join our LGBTQ Parenting Network Team to provide specialized information, education and community development to LGBTQ families, service providers and the general public with the goal of promoting affirming services and healthy families living in supportive communities.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Communications:
- Creates health promotion communications materials such as newsletters, brochures, posters and fact sheets working with writers and graphic artists as needed.
- Coordinates and maintains lively and interesting specialized web site and prepares material for social media such as face book, twitter, blogs, etc
- Responds to media enquiries and provides appropriate information or links to other resources.
Community Development and Education:
- Facilitates courses and group programs offered by the LGBTQ Parenting Network responding to the ongoing and evolving needs of participants.
- Plan and coordinates LGBTQ family-oriented special events and projects in collaboration with staff, community members and partners.
- Provides expert information and referrals on LGBTQ parenting issues to clients and other professionals.
- Provides training on LGBTQ family issues to students, community groups and agencies.
Administration:
- Prepares service plans and grants, writes reports, and maintains program statistics
- Manages all aspects of projects/programs including budget oversight, promotion, coordination of activities, liaising with partners/staff and evaluation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education in health promotion/social sciences at a Master’s level, or equivalent formal training and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of LGBTQ parenting and family issues and familiarity with broader social environment of diverse LGBTQ communities
- Excellent communications skills including website management and writing for a variety of print and social media.
- Significant experience in group facilitation, adult education and training.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills including knowledge of computer software, event management and preparation of narrative and statistical reports.
